Changing the car's mileage from miles to km (or to another value) can only be done by a BMW dealer with the right equipment. He needs to program the car's computer to convert the incoming signal to show a value that represents km and no longer miles. He'll also delete the current value (now showing miles) and he'll enter the corrected value in km. Since the new value will be higher (1.6 times) the dealer won't be too bothered. If you wanted to have a lower value, he'll definetely may have some objections. Lower mileage to increase the resale value of the car, if you know what I mean.
It may be worthwhile asking him a certificate of the change; it may come in handy when selling the car later.
Should take less than 10 minutes ($20?).
Luc.
