I love those keying errors. Anyways, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the warming up issue. In any case, I don't normally get enough time in the mornings to let it sit idle for more than 30 seconds or so (screaming 9 months old like to be moving).

As for VANOS, someone told me a few months ago that I don't. I can't remember my build date off the top of my head, nevertheless. I considered the spark, but I'm not too informed when it comes to the plugs. I think I have an Inspection I coming up, so I'll be sure to bring it up to my tech then. But as for octance, I use 91 all the time lately to see if it made a difference. (I normally alternate 87->89->91->89->87, etc.) It didn't. I'm considering trying different 'brand' of fuel too. I can't find a Chevron station for the life of me around where I drive. Again, thanks for the help.

: Alister/Ken,

: The manufacturers DO NOT recommend warming up the engine at idle. It may be because of the pollution/economy crap or it may not be good period. Someone posted some time ago the reasons why one should avoid doing it.

: I think your mix is too rich or too poor. I'm not sure as how they would manifest, but it's probably a good guess. Maybe you need someone to take a good look at your engine management-wise. (i think you have the vanos but i might be wrong). it could also be the timing of the spark is not proper.
: an injector cleaner unsettles the deposits and that's why it's a good idea to do it before an engine maintenance operation. it may also rise the octane grade of the gas - another reason for which you may have seen a short improvement.

: Hope this helps.
: Good luck,

: (btw, i didn't know 525is came with 6speed..)

: : My '92 525i 6-speed has been acting odd the last 3 weeks. Heavy foot on the throttle under 3k RPM within a few hours on initial daily driving will result in the car stuttering as if it's not getting enough fuel or too much throttle combined with low RPMs. Without a long (10 min+) warmup it acts worse.

: : Two weeks ago I added a full bottle of Valvoline fuel injector cleaner because my tech uses Valvoline too, to see if it would improve. There was a glorious improvement, alas short lived. A tank later and it seems the 'problem' returned albeit not as bad. I'm starting to wonder if my injectors are that nasty or I need some other type of engine/fuel-line work. *shrug*

: : For the time being, I'm not driving as agressive until I figure something out.
