I was able to remove the plug on my 93 525ia M50 using a 3/8" breaker wrench with a 19 mm socket (short). My approach was from above. It was surprisingly easy. I guess that about 2/3 rds of the coolant came out of this port versus 1/3 rd from the radiator port.
