Jim
Not everyone who buys a BMW does so for out-right acceleration. I have owned cars that had amazing acceleration, but they leaked when it rained. I've had cars that would corner better than a mono rail, but only had 2 seats and I've had motorbikes that get from 0-100k/hr so fast they made my eyes water. I now own a BMW 5-series it is comfortable, reliable, and performs extremely well on my countries winding roads (where it's rare to find a straight piece road more than km long). Everyone buys their BMW for different reasons and enjoys them in different ways. And not everyone lives in America.

Thanks
Ben
