so if straightline performance is all that matters, why do we have a steering wheel?

I love my bmws. both with over 200K miles on them and they are still a blast to drive, surprisingly quick and handle better than anything I've ever driven. I race people on back roads around here... say a pontiac firebird... they win until we hit the winding part... then I leave them in the dust... and that's with a stock '85 528e vs a '98 firebird SE with 5.7L engine and 6 speed tranny.
