Haven't read the other responses yet but thought I'd offer some quick thoughts on your interesting thread...a) Any car is limited by its weakest performance characteristic (within limits, I'll always trade some acceleration for better cornering/braking/feedback) b) I've never heard of an accident caused by too brisk acceleration -all seem to be caused by driver inattention and a combination of poor cornering/braking/feedback c) I'd counter your breakdown of percentages of driving conditions by offering that all driving is done to get from point A to B as rapidly and safely as possible (be it twisty 2-lane, open interstate, or crowded city streets) with a maximum of driver enjoyment and control -the exact reasons I drive (Drive!) a Bimmer! Rather than ask 'How quickly does it accelerate?', you might want to consider 'How does it perform under the most challenging conditions I can expect to face (panic stops, emergency lane changes, etc)?' I think you'll then find that even the Bavarian slushboxes outperform their competition! Best, Rusty '95 540i/6
