535 vs. 530? (archive)

I'm considering getting rid of my e32 735 for a 5 speed 535i or 530i e34. My wife has a '94 525 - love the car - would like a little more power. The 6cyl has more torque than the 530 - I know the early 8cyl engines had probs. Is a replaced 8 better than a 535 with it's proven power and reliability - is the 8 smoother - not much more hp - and less torque. Any years to watch out for on e34 535's? Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.
