rattle with acceleration? (archive)

when my 92 535ia is running in fourth and I try to acclerate, there is a rattle the seems to come from the front of the car and then stops after a few seconds if I continue to accelerate. this does not occur when in the S3 drive mode or when the car downshifts into 3rd when acclerating. where could this be coming from?

also this sometimes seems to occur when the a/c is on
