With a large variety of roadsters and ragtops reaching the marketplace early in the millennium, BMW is adding yet another car to its lineup.
The all-new 6-Series coupe (shown in "maybe" form in the illustration above) will be introduced in 2002, with a 2+2 cabrio following in 2003. Replacing the 8-Series, the new cars will be based on the upcoming 5-Series platform. Styling cues from the past 6-Series (built until 1988) will be obvious. Other styling features include a long hood, new headlamps, air intakes and huge 18-inch wheels.
Sources in Germany tell us the new 6-Series will be powered by a 3.5-liter V-8 producing 235-horsepower. A 286-hp 4.4-liter V-8 is optional, as is another engine with 326 horsepower. An M version is also expected.
