Don't mean to be overbearing on this one, but I installed DME chip ($400) first, then installed the tranny chip ($200) and the effect was most definitely noticeable AFTER the tranny chip went in. The tranny chip allows the transmission to full exploit the power & torque of the small V8. The 530iA also has a rather long 2nd gear i.e. makes the car a lazy dud off the line. I was getting picked off by Jeeps for heaven's sake! The tranny chip helps deal with this because your upshift from 1st happens well into the rpms if you lead foot this heavy beast - 2nd gear will seem a lot more palatable at that point.

Again, in the automatic, you have to do BOTH chips! Or ralph's wife will have his head ;0) And Jeeps will be having you for lunch.

(I ended up shortening my final drive ratios too - new differential. The bad news - very expensive; the good news - I eat a lot of surprised showoffs for lunch now.)

: Probably your best bet it to buy a replacement DME chip from either Dinan, Jim Conforti, or Autothority. It will give your best bang for the buck of all mods you can make.
