Most of the reliability issues on the 530i that you read about are the block replacement issue and automatic trannies. I personally would opt for the 530i with the 5 speed. AS LONG AS the block had been replaced or is still within the 100k miles/ 6 years of orig sale date, the car should be great. But as always, have the car checked out by a good, reliable mechanic before making the purchase final.
