I have exactly the same wit our 325e (9/95)
it is a very loud, tickling noise.
Somebody said this could be the injectors ???
The car has this problem for long time / many miles now, it gets not worse / better, so i leave it as it is


: At an idle especially, it sounds like a diesel. Checked the valve clearance last night. My book says .012 all measured .010 to .012. Recently bought the 525i and am just learning about them. I am not too familiar with the over head cam configuration. What else can cause this sound? Note: It has 152k miles.
