I have had a similar problem with both a rear foglight and the central locking. Check the wiring which runs from inside the trunk to the lid, under the black plastic cover. Several of the wires on my car were broken or cracked. (UK users substitute Boot for trunk!) This looks like a common problem with any electrics at the rear end ... a design fault.
