Reply, I have all the tools (vacuum, container, etc.) to remove the contents of the system. I have just converted the system to R134A. Bought a new compressor and drier, but the system only gets cold when the RPMs are in excess of 2800. The only other then could be wrong is the expansion valve. So, can you give me some more details on where the evaporator/expansion valve is. I want to make sure not to remove anything that doesn't need to go. It seems like I always end up breaking some clasps or plastic essiential to keeping the car rattle proof. You know?
Thanks moots for the reply. Can you follow-up?
-Damon: Explored the car INTERIOR for the condensor? The condensor sits in front of the car radiator. You must mean evaporator, which is under the dashboard.Removal is from the front pax side. The evaporator must come out first before you can get access to the expansion valve. This also requires depressurising of the a/c system.R U sure you want to do this?
: : I have explored the interior of my 1990 535i this weekend and never located the expansion valve or the condensor for the A/C system. Can someone provide my with some specifics of how to approac the removal and replacement of the expansion valve? Should I remove the passenger side compartment or drivers side? Does the entire center console have to come out? Many thanks!
