Isn't the E34 a bit safer than some valvo's though? However, something like a 3 might be a better car for learning to drive as it would be less intimidating. The performance of a 525i with the M20 engine is low enough to keep people out of trouble. I would recommend getting the manual, as the automatic is even more of a slug.
I also think that everyone should be proficient at car control, and should either be taught by family/friends, or go take a car control school. I know that here in atlanta, there is a school (run by panoz www.panozracingschool.com) that teaches teen driving schools and advanced handling schools as well as racing schools.
I would highly recommend finding something similar near you and learn at least the basics.-Michael McCoy
hey, my dad told me i could get a 1989 or 1990 525 as a first car. Is it a good car, i am only 15 and i have never driven one before, and also are there any major problems with it, if so could u email it to me..thnx, nish
Hi Mic! NoNo,I mean get a clunker first, then the bimmer! So he will hook on BMW for sure. The E34 take a while to glow on you.I remember the first time I drove it..93'525i.I didn't like it at all,I had a 92acura legend at that time.Just think 525 is to slow, steering is too loose, window switches in the wrong place, radio sounds like Kmart shit, the guy who design the wheels needs to send to CHINA and stay in the correctional camp for 2 years.......not until my friend took me out for a ride on his 94 540i.Bmw don't shine until 85mph+!The rest is history.I'm really hooked.
