My first car (and I still have it), was a 1986 BMW M535i. I will never regret getting the real deal. My father had a Honda Accord LX at the time I got my car (and my mother had a E36 325i she still drives). I was mostly driving the Accord, and compared to the BMW, it's nowhere near.

BMW's have better build quality, performance, safety (active & passive), and are better overall. Once you have one, you won't go back. A Volvo is ok, I've been a few of my friends, but they're no match to a BMW.

If you have:
1. Parent's support (spoken and financially)
2. Responsibility (NO midnight 1/4 miles down Main Street)
3. Willingness to learn how to drive well (autoX, school)

Then you can get a BMW. An E34 525i (either M20 or M50) is fine. If you can swing a good condition 535i manual, get that.

The key is to get a car with history, papers, and that has been maintained well. That way your wallet will still have some cushioning effect.

hey, my dad told me i could get a 1989 or 1990 525 as a first car. Is it a good car, i am only 15 and i have never driven one before, and also are there any major problems with it, if so could u email it to me..thnx, nish
