Low Speed Rumble (archive)

At between 30 to 40 KPH there is a low frequency rumble coming from the front of the car. It occurs with accelaeration and deceleration. It is a noise independent of brakes. The only things I can think of are either tyres or transmission (auto). Can anyone offer their experience to help?
