I notice this real bad "shuddering" on my 94 540I when I go accelerate quickly and then let off the accelerator. I took it to a mechanic who thought it might be the rubber coupler between the drive shaft and the engine but after replacing it, that was'nt it. I then had the tires balanced but the problem still persists.

It shakes the steering wheel pretty bad so I thought it might be an alignment problem but if that were the case, would'nt it do it at every speed?
