My front end "Shudders" when I let off the gas? (archive)

I have a 94 540i and sometimes (I can't duplicate it all the time) when I let off the gas, notable after a quick burst of acceleration the front end "shudders" or "wobbles" and the steering wheel vibrates badly. I took it to a mechanic who said it might be the coupler between the drive shaft and the engine but no solution. Then I had the tires balanced and still the shaking persists.

I think it could be an alignment problem but if that were the case, wouldnt it do it all the time? I am so frustrated, can anyone please give me some insight???
