What kind of driving do you do? My 525i started doing that after my wife had been driving the car for a while. She tends to drive rather conservatively and never really pushed the car
hard. Also, she was doing short trips. I took the
car when I started to have a long commute to work
(25 miles one way) and after driving for a a month
or so the ticking on startup went away. I think
maybe there was some carbon build up or something
like that and I burned it off after a some highway driving. I also was driving the car in
sport mode.

My 94 540ia withe 85k miles (bought it with 81K just after the block replacement) has just recently started a very slight valve train "ticking" upon start up & then goen away after about 30 seconds, ive been fanatic about maintence, 2-3k between oil changes, & iwas given a 1 yr 10k warranty for the new short block & also puschased a comprensive 3rd party warranty on everyting else. but what do i need to look for as far as wera & tear on the origianl valve train ?
