cold start engine knock, have u heard it??? (archive)

thanks for responding.......
i have a 1990 535i w/ 182000kms. when starting cold in the morning, and for about 5mins there is a pronounced engine knock. My guess without an engine teardown is that I have piston slap which is play at the skirt of the piston or possibly wrist pin noise. If youve been thier and done that, tell me about it. thanks again.
