Not too sure about the NRV or the PRV but am sure that no mass production cars take 10 seconds to have the oil pressure light to extinguish. And certainly not on a BMW.My oil pressure light goes out within 1 second from the moment I release the ignition key from start.
I would replace the oil pressure s/w even though it tested OK.

My 1988 530i takes 10 seconds from start up for the oil
pressure light to go out, if the car has been left switched off overnight.
A pressure gauge has been used to confirm the pressure switch function is correct. A new oil filter and oil have been installed. Cold oil pressure is
4.5bar and hot is 1.5bar, both at idle. 2000rpm sees 5 bar.
I am at my wits end. Can anybody confirm if this engine has a non return valve in the oil system.
Could the pressure relief valve be jammed open letting oil drain back.
Or is this normal for this engine.
Help
