My 94 540ia (snip) has just recently started a very slight valve train "ticking" upon start up & then goen away after about 30 seconds,

It sounds like a hydraulic lifter on one of
the valves is taking a tad long to fillup.
It's generally considered harmless. If the
ticking period starts getting longer and
longer, you may need a new lifter.
