Having a power steering fluid reservoir that requires expensive pentosin doesn't necessarily mean that your car has the self-leveling rear suspension.

My 1992 525i automatic appears to be leaking transmission fluid. It is light red in color and coats the pans under the car. As I inspected the Power Steering system I noticed that the fluid looks the dsame as what was leaking under the car. The manual says that the car will either use ATF or CHF 7.1 and tha the lid to the power steering refill container will indicate which I should use.

In my case the lid says CHF 7.1 so I got some and noticed that it is light green in color and not red.

!!!???!!! Now I am confused !!!???

Can anyone shead some light on the differences betweem ATF and CHF 7.1?

Can anyone assure me that my system is ATF ---- or --- CHF 7.1?

The power steering system is very low so I think it may be the source of my leak, bit the color confuses me as to the compatibility of existing fluid with the new can of CHF 7.1
