Try some injector cleaner in the tank. It sure is worth a try as it might solve the problem inexpensively. I had a similar problem and got rid of it with a bottle of STP injector cleaner. Hope this helps!

'93 525i

drove 1000 km at speed +/- 100mph and used super plus unleaded with STP injector cleaner and still have the problem although probably not as bad...???
