Looks like you may be in the UK. I run my 93 525i on Castrol Magnatec 10w/40 for advanced engines. Semi synthetic; I change at at 5,000 miles. Car now 120,000 miles - engine 100% - zero oil consumption. Cheaper than Mobil 1. I noticed local BMW dealer recently promoting Mobil 1. BMW have extended oil change interval on recent cars and now recommend fully synthetic. On older cars not necessary. My excellent local independent engineer reckons good old GTX or equivalent perfectly adequate. It isn't just the oil, it's how often the oil and filter are changed!
