M5 servotronic steering is geared 9% shorter than standard E34s and the steering boost decreases as speed increases.

Increased steering effort in decreasing radius curves is not normal. Check the tightness of the belts and the level of CHF11.0s fluid in the canister. It should come up to the level of the mesh screen. Do not re-fill with ATF fluid as it is incompatible and will cause leaks.

My 540i Sport has euro '95 M5 Servotronic steering. I don't know if this is wholly different from standard 540i steering or is simply geared differrently; it is speed-sensitive.
When I drive hard in the curves, the steering gets VERY difficult. Basically, once the car takes a set, it takes mucho force to make minor corrections. Today, in a surprising decreasing radius turn, it was downright scary.
My question is this: Does this sound like the "normal" set-up, can it be adjusted, or even tested, or should I quit crying and work out more?

thanks for any info
