Got an irritating problem. I have an 89 525i automatic. I took my car to Ohio and on the way back to York, PA (500 miles) I stopped and filled up on 89 octane. About 50 or so miles later, the car started to hesistate randomly. It was like it was misfiring. I drove it home, filled with 93 oct and also added oct booster, water remover, ever tried injector cleaner. It lessened, but still when I drive the car it hesistates.

It usually does it between 2500-3000 RPM. I replaced the fuel filter, no good. Also, my little computer is not working right. The avg mph/mpg won't start averaging and the trip meter doesn't count down. The time estimator and stopwatch works.

Also, when it hesistates "hard" now (sometimes it's pretty strong hesistation, sometimes it's light) the Check Engine light will go off. It will light for about 3 seconds, go off, flash one time for a second, then start over with the 3 second. It does that over and over till I make it hesistate "hard", then sometimes it goes away then.

Took it to the dealer, they said they couldn't connect to the computer so it would need a new Motronic. Sounds sensible to me, I imagine it prolly supplies the onboard computer with data for mpg/speed and all that so it makes sense. Do you all think that is it? Could there be something else I can test?

Please, any suggestions would be gratefully received. This aggravates me. Of course what aggravated me more was seeing the other 89 525i for sale in NJ for offers over 3k when I just paid $8000 for mine with 112k miles and problems ;) Doh!

Ken
