Was doing oil/filters/plugs yesterday on my '95 525iT and noted a small bit of oil around the skirt of plug #3 as it came up out of the head. The head cover screw immediately forward looks like it is leaking a bit.

Rob,

Don't know how similar to the 4liter is to the
2.5, but they do use the same cover sealing
system. Both the rubber gaskets under the cover
bolts and the inner cover gasket could be the
problem. Cost is probably $35 for a set of complete gaskets (bolt gaskets, inner/outer gaskets). Changing them is not difficult
(1 hour). From your description, I'd get it is
the inner gasket which is leaking (seals the
area around the spark plug well).
Bentley's procedure is probably
the correct way, but on the 540i, I was able
to do the covers WITHOUT removing the whole
upper wiring harness assembly.

John
