meter?

I have a clicking noise coming from the top of the engine on my '91 535 5spd. Someone suggested that the clicking coupled with a slight miss at around 2500 rpms when in first/second/third may be caused by an air flow meter that needs to be replaced. Sound reasonable? Rebuilt or new?

Thanks, Chip
