Okay, time for a dumb question: is the piston of the slave cylinder correctly seated against the clutch release fork? I don't remember whether there is a separate piece that goes between the slave tip and the fork.

I'm thinking that if the slave is not pushing against anything, it will stay extended and there will be no pressure in the master. Kinda dumb question but worth confirming.
