My 92 535ia still has clicking too when I purchased her 12,000 miles ago (now with 128,000). I had the valves adjusted the week after I bought the car, and was told that the cam was slightly worn (hence the clicking never went away). The car continues to click, and i was told by a few different mechanics that the older bimmers may do this, but it would not cause a problem--just keep up with the oil changes. I don't notice any skips, but the car runs smoother when i let her warm up before driving. Are you possibly interpreting skips as actual gear changes if yours is an automatic?
