90-535i: Lamp Control Module & BMW Safety Recall?? (archive)

In an earlier request I asked why my headlamps went off and on unexpectedly at night. Two people kindly pointed me to the lamp control module (LKM) saying that bad/defective soldering on the circuit board was the culprit. Another replied that after re-soldering he added thin padding to cushion the circuit board against the protective case. My question is this: Has BMW ever issued a safety recall on this defect? It does create a genuine safety hazard to have the headlamps go out unexpectedly at night. I am ready to try to resolder the connections - but am afraid (if I mess up) that I'll have to buy a whole new module, which some say costs $275. Mnay thanks!
