If it is a clicking/snapping noise probably normal. If it's going to fail, it's pointless to not use it, not using it is just as if it has already failed. Stay cool til it goes, then fix it. In the mean time have the freon level checked and serviced if low.

Hi All,
I have been hearing a strange noise coming from the ac compressor, especially during this hot weather in the midwest. I had a friend listen to it yesterday, when the outside temp was 109, and he thought it sounded like the clutch. My ? is: Is is safe to use the ac with this problem? Will I destroy the compressor? I would also like to know how much this might cost to repair:.O
Thanks in advance.
Cheri
