Has anyone tried to change the muffler on a 1989 525?? How hard is it to do on ones own?? What should I watch for?

On my 1989 525i there is a one piece unit from the reasonator on back. Therefore, you must cut the old one off and weld the new one back on. Or you can buy a new reasonator and and muffler and they will bolt on, but that's around $500 for both. That's the best price I could find.
