on how the car has been driven, where the car has spent most of its life, how it has been maintained, and what pre-cautions the previous owner took to avoid potential problems...

A 100k mile BMW can be a very reliable companion given it has been treated well with respect, taken care of by its owner who understands these cars.. A newer 50k mile BMW treated poorly can have more porblems potentially..

Look out for worn front end suspension, properly working a/c system, take a close look at the coolant system, be wary of suspicious vibration or noises from the engine, or exhaust, take a close look out for service records and make sure the car was serviced regularly and make sure all the electricals are in proper running order. Little things like broken window motors can significantly add up in service costs....

Things like poor paint, excessively worn interior, bald tires, and other cosmetics are red flags and is probably a good indication that the previous owner has neglected maintaining the car mechanically also..

I am thinking of buying a 93 520se with 100k miles, the car has a full BMW service history, am i likely to have any problems with the engine at this mileage?
