yes there was an e34 518i with 4 cylinders. i live in brunei and i can say that for malaysia, singapore and brunei, the minimum was the e34 520i.
But in the uk for example, the e34 518i was available. i should know, my father imported an e28 518i from there about 9 years ago.... it's extremely hard to get spare parts, especially those which are not in common with the other models.
acc-wise, it's a bit sluggish, and i bet it's even more sluggish for the e34 518i.
if i'm not mistaken, one of the board members here actually owns an e34 518i.

my friend has an e34 bmw...., and i don't know what year it is......

and i looked at the engine......, it was looked the same as my e30..... it was an M40....

my question is....., was it really a 4 cylinder 518i?,and when?

i think it's a bit funny....., a big car with pretty small engine....
