The diagnostic connector under the hood provides one with a means to "bump" the engine over without actually starting the engine. It is an alternative to turning the crankshaft manually.
If you short two of the pins (Bentley should tell you which ones), the starter is engaged. May take a little practice to get the hang of it to get the cam lobes to line up properly but once you do, it is pretty effective.
If you're not comfortable doing this, you can always use the normal method; remove spark plugs and get out the trusty breaker bar and socket set.
