Paul, the most obvious cause of low oil pressure is insufficient quantity, which you have eliminated as a cause here. If your oil level is not dropping (and if your don't have an oil slick in your driveway) I would assume you're not leaking horribly. Therefore, I would suspect that your either have a worn oil pump or a bad sensor. Have your BMW dealer test the sensor first, then check the oil pressure remotely. I would not drive much until you have this done, low oil pressure is bad news to your engine bearings.
There are four possible messages,
Engine oil pressure
Engine oil low
Oil pressure sensor
Oil level sensor
You need to state which message your getting, to determine what the problem most likely is.
I have recently purchased a 91 535i, and the oil pressure light goes off telling me to check the owners manual. All the manual says is to check my oil level, which is fine. Can this mean anything else, or am I dealing with a faulty switch? Thanks for the input.
