The automatic transmissions in these cars have adaptive shift patterns. They 'learn' the way you drive and try to shift according to you past driving behavior. So if the previous owner always floored it from a stop, the trans may have 'learned' to stay in gear longer. Disconnect the battery for an hour or two. This should clear out the program. Then reconnect the battery and drive the way you normally would. If the trans 'learns' your driving style, you're set. Otherwise, you may want to have it looked at.
