After taking a 20 minute drive I noticed a burning smell coming from underneath the car . When I looked under the car I observed light smoke coming from where I believe the Oxygen Sensor is located. I don't understand why, I changed the sensor about 8,000 miles ago. What could be the problem?1990 535iA

I had what *may* have been a similar problem several weeks ago (although on a 540 - not a 535)- turned out to be a self-imolating catalytic converter. Caused a lot of noxious smoke and also apparently damage to the O2 sensor.
