I am not as ambitious as you as I am only changing the thrust arms. While doing the left front yesterday, I whaled on the pickle fork with a three pound hammer and drove the fork ends through the backing plate and put a dent in the rotor. The ball joint still did not pop out.
Thankfully I had new rotors on hand for the brake job I planned to do next weekend.
I spent the rest of Sunday trying to shorten the fork ends enough to get the ball joint out.
For replacement, I had trouble getting the new thrust arm ball joint lined up with strut hole. So I took the cross member bolt back out and put the ball joint end in first, I had my wife turn the steering wheel so that I could get the bushing end lined up with the cross member hole.
Did you have this much grief? Any hints you have would be appreciated. I will finish the right side today. I hope it will go better (learning curve theory).

I am in the middle of replacing all control arms, thrust arms, sway bar links, tie rod ends and track rod. The only problem I have run into is the lower control arm bolt that attaches to the lower strut housing(steering arm according to the Bentley). I cannot loosen the three bolts at the bottom of the strut housing, and therefore I cannot get the lower control arm ball joint end free. I am assuming that these three bolts are Loctited or something. Do I need to heat them up, just reef on them with a sledge at the end of a wrench or what? Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to drive my car on Monday!
Thanks,
Sean
