91 535 uses oil.. is this normal (archive)

I have a 91 535 with 102k miles. I bought it with 73k and have been using Mobil 1 15/50 since purchasing. It doesn't smoke or leak but is about a quart low at every oil change (i change it every 3k)I've been told that if you drive them hard and run them at hi rpm..that this is normal..True???
