Mike,

I too have a 530i 5 speed, although I have a 1995. If the road conditions are decent to good, then I would updrade to 18" wheels and intall H&R or Eibach lowering springs. I used H&R springs and Boge shocks and am very happy with the entire set up. The ride is definitely firm, but you CANNOT compare the performance to 15" stock or even 16" set ups(IMO).
