Having said that, I do not know what I would replace mine with - as I don't have a lazy $200k for an M5, and no other manual E39's available (thanks BMW Aus), may just have to (happily) keep the E34. Not a dilemma too hard to live with.

If you did want some more grunt, but did not want to spend all the cash, you could consider turbo charging your 535i.

Just out of curiosity, I got a quote from Mike Vine Turbo in Brisbane. His Stage II system (intercooled, electronic smarts, etc) is claimed to double the rear wheel horsepower, at a cost of about $10K. He told me he has previously turbo'd M30 motors, but not in an E34, very successfully, and kilometres on the clock are not a problem.

Mmm. Some suspension and brake mods, and you've got some serious fun!
