I replaced my heater valves last week because of the same symptoms. They are located next to the fuse box. The plungers had broken off. It's about $149 from Bavarian. It works well now.

1990 535i (not sharked yet!)

Forgive me if this is an archive item, but I find that when I turn on the defrost setting, it's full-hot, and the same with air to the feet...always hot. If I turn on the vent (in your face), I can get cool air. My question is this...what the heck are those temperature adjusting knobs for if all I can get is hot air?? Is something stuck?

Also, the driver's side seatbelt has a very weak retract, my Bentley manual seems to indicate the unit must be replaced as a whole, is this the case? Funny how a weak retract on a seatbelt can be such a pain in the ass!!

Expensive (duh!)?
