This could be normal. When it is cold, your automatic transmission is supposed to delay upshifting in order to hasten engine warmup (reduces emissions). This has apparently been complained about by enough owners that BMW issued a service bulletin explaining that the delay in upshifting is normal - and it does make your engine rev higher.
Help! No one can help me with this yet and it's driving me crazy (sorry for the pun). When I drive my car, which is an automatic, for about 20 min. of city driving, it gets a sound like the engine is going 120 mph, when the speed has not changed. The dealer said it is not "reving". Someone else said it was only the fan coming on. But the sensation is that it kind of pulls back on me, that it takes more gas (slightly) to get going. Is this normal for a 540i? I really find it annoying--not a really smooth, quiet ride, for sure! Please, please help. Thanks, Sandy
