When I bought mine in 05/98 I ran it on 87 octane for at least a month and all the time wondered why it pinged on slight accel. Carbon thought I, so I upped it to 92.

Ordered a JC chip and boy was I surprised to find a Dinan chip in the ECU. You should have heard the SO...

BTW, the JC chip is better than the Dinan by my "seat 'o' the pants dyno"

After getting back from out of town, I found that my 1990 525i was driving kind of sluggishly. Something just felt wrong with it. I had just changed the timing belt and all the drive belts the week before and was afraid that i may have screwed something up. When I went to the pump to fill up I realized that I had lent my car to my cousin without telling him it takes only premium. After calling him I found out that he has filled up with 87 octane gas. I have drive a full tank of this. Do I have anything to worry about? Could I have messed something up? After changing over to premium all was back to normal, but I am afraid I might have damaged my engine.
