If you're looking for a good replacement shock with no unpleasant surprises, get the OEM replacement - Boge. I don't know if the Bilstein HD would be too harsh for you, but if you're not looking for high performance, why take the chance?

93 525i Dinan springs/Boge gas shocks

I'm going to be replacing the rear shocks on my '94 530i. My initial thought was to replace them with Boge Gas shocks - an upgrade from the 'standard' Boge. So, I ordered from my local parts guy - he swears by them. When I called BavAuto for my Bentley manual, I heard they had Boge gas on sale for $5.00 off. So... I decided to order from them to save $15 each. HOWEVER, the person @ BavAuto recommended Bilsteins - higher tech, higher performance, longer lasting, more progressive response (supposedly). He also said that aftermarket Boge Gas shocks in the US were actually set for a softer ride compared to stock.

I'm not looking for super high performance (no lowering, etc.), just a good, balanced shock.

So...any thoughts on Boge Gas vs Bilstein?

Thanks!
