Your E28 have replacable bulb unit... that is standard. This is why you were able to install the e-code headlight on it that has H4 bulb. On E34, we cannot just change the bulb unit like you do on E28... we have to change the whole assembly.

Believe me, I bought a set of e-code headlights thinking I can just change the headlight bulb unit... and found it doesn't have the buckets for use to install it like the E28.

The only way to get to e-code headlight is by calling Bekkers Import... they got two different set of e-code... one is clear and one that look a bit smoke in color... $489 and $569 repectively. I bought the smoke one and waiting for it to arrive today.

There is one other choice... inspect your headlight lens closely... if there is alot of pits, you need to change it... you can buy them for $82 each from bimmerparts.com. If your headlight is okay, you have an option of installing the HID kit... for $400 in 'Ford' parts as described in the latest 'Bimmer' Magazine.
